This sculpture, composed of three massive stone pillars, topped by a horizontal slab, symbolically represents the three countries (Germany, Israel and Palestina), the three religions, and the three stories that the project seeks to unite. Each of the three pillars is adorned with unique patterns and reliefs that depict different stories and symbols, reflecting the diversity of the artists involved and their backgrounds.

One of the most striking details of the sculpture is the red star on one of the pillars. This symbol represents hope, enlightenment, and a possible new beginning, perfectly in line with the spirit of the “NO EXCUSE” project. The star acts as a point of light, emphasizing the theme of bringing together different perspectives.

The sculpture conveys a powerful message of unity and shows that despite differences in origin, religion, and history (symbolized by the varying structures of the pillars) a stable and lasting connection (here represented by the top slab) is possible. This aligns with the project’s idea that, despite their differences, people can create something beautiful based on their shared humanity.

The accompanying text of the project speaks about how there should be no excuse for prejudice, hatred, or exclusion, regardless of origin, religion, or political beliefs. Instead, the artists aim to demonstrate through their works that something positive and creative can emerge despite the differences among people. The sculpture, which displays diversity both in its form and in its details, powerfully symbolizes this philosophy.

The choice of Antwerp as the exhibition site adds another layer of meaning, as the city itself has a history of conflicts and diverse ethnic groups. Thus, the sculpture, which represents the creation of art as a universal language for peace and understanding, becomes even more relevant in a historical context.
