At the center is the depiction of Mr. Spock, a character we all know as a rational, scientific figure from Star Trek. Here, however, we present him on a cross, a reference to the traditional Christian iconography of Christ’s crucifixion.
By choosing Mr. Spock, a figure who stands for logic and rationality, and placing him in the classical crucifixion pose, we seek to combine cultural and religious symbols to highlight the contrasts between science and faith. The blending of pop culture and religious symbolism is deliberately provocative, intended to spark discussion and reflection.
The phrase “ZEIT IST KNAPP”, written below, directs an urgent appeal to the viewer. We want to raise the question of how we use our time and in which areas of our lives we may need to make changes whether in faith, science, or everyday life. The limited nature of time serves here as a metaphor for the challenges of our modern, fast-paced society, touching on existential questions about life itself. Ultimately, it is our own decisions that determine how we deal with the transience of life.
With “Zeit ist knapp,” we are making a statement about the scarcity of time and the necessity of consciously shaping our lives. The stencil graffiti is an invitation for everyone to engage with the symbolic layers and to question their own role in a world where both science and faith influence our understanding of time and existence.
